Ivan Kafuko, Kyambogo University Guild President

Kyambogo University Guild President, Ian Kafuko has called upon fellow youth to pick up an intellectual fight and protect what their ‘fathers died for’.

He made the remarks while addressing delegates at the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Inter-generational Dialogue held on 29th September 2015 at Imperial Royale Royale Hotel.

He said the youth constitute 68% of the nation and are everywhere in the Uganda before imploring them to pick up a fight and defend the nation.

“Every generation has had responsibilities, way back to the presidents’ liberation of the country. Those years were for fighting; today it is for protecting what our fathers died for. We the young have to pick up an intellectual fight,” Kafuko said.

Kafuko, who won the guild race on the NRM ticket, noted that he had a hard time convincing the electorates just because the electorates where youth who had not internalized NRM ideology.

“The youth have not properly internalized the ideas of NRM. Ideological empowerment can only be effected through provision of relevant information to the youth.” He said.

Prof. Edward Rugumayo, an NRM historical member who also doubles as the current chancellor Mountain of the moon university said the current generation should succeed the NRM leadership.

“70% of 35million people (in Uganda) were born after 1985 (and) this is the generation that must succeed the current leadership of NRM.”

The dialogue was organized by members of the B12 Study Group and NRM Historical Leaders Forum under the theme “The responsibility of each generation in advancing the vision, values and programs of the National Resistance Movement.”

It was meant to reflect on the preparedness of NRM young cadres to take up various leadership roles during this election season.

Different NRM dignitaries, leaders and hundreds of youth were in attendance.
