The Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Comprehensive Institute is planning to grow into a degree-awarding institution later this year.
While speaking at the 16th Graduation ceremony held last month, Herbert Mukasa, YMCA’s Kampala Branch Director, revealed that the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has been looking through its syllabus and other requirements before approving their request.
Speaking on the sidelines of last month’s graduation ceremony at their YMCA Buwambo campus in Matugga, Mukasa explained that the NCHE had asked them to make corrections to the syllabus, which they had made.
“By September this year, we are sure YMCA will be accredited by NCHE and we hope to begin degree courses in hotel and institutional management, business administration, cosmetology and secretarial and administration,” Herbert Mukasa said.
YMCA’s recently acquired land close to 400 acres in Buwambo, Matugga where a university campus is being set up.
The campus will feature laboratories, an administration block and farmland.
The YMCA presently has branches in Masaka, Mbarara, Jinja, Mukono, Mbale and Kasese.
