Wildlife conservationist and Educationist Prof.Eric Edroma dies at 74

Prof.Eric Edroma is dead: Silence has befallen the family, friends and students after hearing the shocking news of the untimely death of Prof.Eric Edroma.

He is well known for his great love for wildlife, which even forced him and Hon. John Ken Lukyamuzi, plus the late Ponsiano Semwezi to start Wildlife Clubs of Uganda.

In the Academia, Prof.Eric Edroma has taught and supervised many university students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The fallen Edroma first lectured at Makerere university where he taught for several years before joining Nkumba University in 1998 as a senior lecturer.

While at Nkumba university, Edroma introduced the hotel management and tourism school. During his term as Dean,  he created more new courses and guided the first PhD graduate in the course.  He also served as the university orator while at Nkumba University.

He later served as Vice Chancellor at International University of East Africa.

Born to Tito Oti and Ojia Oti of Arua, Edroma went to Jiako Primary School, Arua Junior SS for his junior and King’s College Budo for both O’ and A’level.

He attended London University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree, specializing in science.

Prof.Eric Edroma won a number of awards: In 1982, Edroma won an emblem of recognition from UNESCO, which he wears up to now.

In 2002, when Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) was celebrating its 50th anniversary, Edroma was awarded a presidential honour from President Yoweri Museveni at Para in Murchison falls.

In 2003, he received the American Biographical Institute medal.

In 2006, he received another presidential award through the National Council for Science and Technology, where he had been vice-chairman for eight years.

This year (2003), Edroma won a European Business Assembly Award in London. He was recognised for his contribution to research in natural and cultural sectors and promotion of higher education.

He Participated in The New Dawn photography campaign aimed at rebranding Northern Uganda-USAID/NUTI Project (2010). Philimon is in love with photography, writing, reading, sharing new ideas and interacting with reasonable people for skills development.
