Lectures should focus on practical than theaory: COURTESY PHOTO

The education system in Uganda offers a wide range of theoretical concepts without digging deep into the practical skills needed for the course.

Many students graduate with degrees from the University only to find out that they are incompetent and half-baked, incapable of delivering what is required by the job market.

Mr Odeke Julius, had his Bachelors degree of Màss communication at the prestigious Kampala International University but he wishes the university had taught him television work, he would be better than he is now .

He asked the university to keep on engaging UCC for re-opening of KIU radio and further asked  continuing students to do internship in different media houses in order to gain all the skills in both print and broadcast.

Babirye Hamisa, learnt photography but claims its inadequate since nowadays the editor sends you into the field expecting a story and a photo. She asks the university  to equip students with more of practical than theoretical skills because in the field requires hands-on. She advises students to go and study short courses in graphics, production  to be equipped with practical knowledge.

Don’t miss a chance to work with your dream media house when you are a new graduate. Here are some of the things nation media do to hire new graduates according to Mr. Joel who works with human resource team at nation media.
Did u know that once upon time KIU had a radio station but it was closed by UCC. What went wrong, don’t miss out our next publications next week.
