Nkumba University students will have a reason to smile if the new planned modern administrative building is set up. The university has started raising money and recently they organized a fundraising dinner hosted by the Chancellor, Prof Gordon Wavamunno, on November 9th at Lugogo show grounds.
At the end of the fundraising, 135 million shillings had been collected. Wava contributed 99 millions, Nkumba guild government led by Kayihura Felix pledged 1 million. While the speaker of parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga also pledged two hundred thousand shillings only among others.
While speaking at the dinner, Hon. Amanya Mushega expressed concern over the quality of graduates being produced today by the universities in Uganda. “Most universities have become more commercial and let me hope Nkumba will not only make money but produce well equipped graduates”, Amanya Mushega said.
Wava said that the students’ money should be put to right use and argued the university management to be open with the money collected. “I want to see that a foundation is there and am ready to be fired if things are not running the right way”, Wava told the university management.
The dinner is part of an ongoing process towards infrastructural development and shall house offices of various staffs, including the Secretariat of the University Council and facilities for the University inventory.
The Vice Chancellor, P.E.T Mugambi revealed that the structure will cost them about five billion shillings.
