It was all joy and praise to Deogratious M. Damba, 23, when his name was read as the best graduate student at the 15th graduation ceremony of Nkumba University last week. “Oh my God, praise be to Him”, excited Damba cheerfully said repeatedly as ties of joy rolled down his cheeks. Damba graduated with a first class degree in Business Administration and attributed his success to hard work, sacrifice and prayers.
1700 students were awarded Masters, Bachelor’s Degrees, as well as Diplomas and Certificates in different academic disciplines. Two PHDs in Education and Development studies were awarded to Bukirwa Joyce and Edaku Charles respectively.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor, Sir Gordon Kasibante Babala Wavamuno. Prof. Wava urged the graduates to think of entrepreneurship other than focusing on being employed. “Whatever your professional qualifications, I strongly argue you to set your eyes to entrepreneurship because the future belongs to the enterprising spirit”, Wava advised the graduates. He added that graduates have not only been skilled to seek jobs but also to become job creators. Wava also encouraged the graduates to emulate the professional values and social interactions credited to the Late Prof. William Senteza Kajubi, the founding Vice Chancellor of Nkumba University who passed away in May this year.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Paul Edward Mugambi revealed that the university is going to start a new course in Nursing in the next academic year. He said the new course will be offered under the school of Sciences.
The ceremony was attended by the Supreme Mufti, Shake Zubiri Kayongo, Dons from other Universities, parents and Graduates.
