Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi calls for Public-Private Partnerships

The Vice President of Uganda, H.E Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has emphasized the need for synergies between the public and private sector in order to realize economic growth and sustainable development.

Ssekandi was opening the 1st International Conference on Technology and Management, and launching a series of conferences at the International Resource Centre in Kampala, on 4th August 2014.

The forum was intended to provide a platform for international academicians, researchers and other partners to devise ways of improving service delivery using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and revitalizing the management sector.

“This conference is timely now that the Government has positioned ICT as an enabler for growth and development. It also in line with Uganda’s National Development Plan and Vision 2040,” he noted.

The Vice President used the occasion to challenge scholars to work towards achieving the 2015 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

“Like many countries around the globe, Uganda is still lagging behind but once partnerships are formed, it will give you an edge and the opportunity to be inventive and abreast with the trends and ensure your relevance to today’s community,” he emphasized.

Ssekandi also highlighted e-business, e-education and e-agriculture as key drivers of growth and commended Uganda Technology and Management University for sensitizing both the Private and Public Sectors through E-Governance Workshops. He noted that higher institutions of learning should be seen to contribute towards socio-economic transformation.

“I want thank UTAMU for its continuous efforts towards empowering public servants. The government of Uganda will continue to support capacity building initiatives to revitalize service delivery through use of ICT”, he pledged.

The conference, an initiative of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU ran under the theme ‘IMPROVING SERVICE DELIVERY THROUGH ICT AND MANAGEMENT REVITALIZATION’.
