On Saturday, 26th September 2015, Uganda Technology And Management University (UTAMU) held a successful inaugural graduation ceremony at the NWSC International Resource Centre in Bugolobi.
The colourful event saw UTAMU’s pioneer batch of 80 students graduate with masters degrees and postgraduate diplomas.
The graduation ceremony was presided over by the founding Chancellor Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, a former Kenya Vice President.
In his remarks, Dr Musyoka said that the graduation sets a precedent for many more graduations to be witnessed by UTAMU and also testifies of the hard work, teamwork and commitment and resilience.
“For a university that started three years ago, UTAMU has demonstrated that a great deal can be accomplished with precision and excellence within a very short time.”
On the same day, 26th September 2015, the Chancellor introduced Prof. Benon Basheka, the current Dean of the School of Business and Management at UTAMU as the incoming Vice Chancellor of UTAMU who will be installed as Vice Chancellor by the Chairperson of the University Council on 2nd October 2015.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, UTAMU’s Vice Chancellor and founder Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba referred to the event as a landmark achievement.
He said UTAMU is focused to boost joint research, capacity building, training, technology transfer and service provision.
“We have put in place programs to attract, recruit and retain top professors in technology and management disciplines.
The inaugural graduation ceremony was attended by the Kenyan High Commissioner in Uganda Maj. Gen (Rtd) Geoffrey Okanga, the South African High Commissioner in Uganda Prof Lekoa Solly Mollo , the Makerere University Deputy VC, Western Uganda Youth MP Hon. Gerald Karuhanga among others.
