Nkumba drops points

By Ballack Olupot Ivanovic. NKumba university dropped a precious two points in the University football league after being held to a goal less draw at home to Makerere university Business School (MUBS).

Both sides came into this game needing a win so as to boost their title hopes. Nkumba were adrift of table leaders Kampala University (KU) by two points and MUBS were a further four behind.

The result now leaves Nkumba closing the gap to KU to just one point but the table leaders have a game in hand. In pulsating match from the onset, both sides played with a high tempo and a lot of caution, leaving one to predict the results but mid way the first half , fortunes were about to change.

MUBS, were gifted with a free kick on 17 minutes. Joachim Gulooba curled the ball in and a Wanyama Henry flick hit the post, with a subsequent rebound from OKello Maxwell also pouncing on the cross bar.

But with Nkumba mounting the same equal pressure, the score line stayed put. Nkumba’s Nicolas Lubowa, caused all sorts of problems for the MUBS back line and in fact defender Derrick Busingye came to the rescue on several occasions.

At one time, in a flick of exchanges Martin Sseruwagi nearly put the hosts ahead but MUBS goalie Elias Mbago was perfectly ready to pulse the ball out. Both teams began the second half as the first one. On 62 minutes, MUBS agonizingly came close.

A superb, Joachim Golooba shot met Mubarak’s clearance from the goal line and the hosts lived on. There were also opportune moments for Martin Sseruwagi and Gerald Lipot for Nkumba, but more precisely was from Faisal Muwawu who would have won for the hosts, in the 84th minute.

With his cheeky shot and a goal keeper to beat, Faisal managed to thrust the ball wide. The results now gives Kampala University a one point advantage over Nkumba, but the former have a match in hand against sixth placed Ndejje University Today.

MUBS will remain third but can go six points adrift of the table leaders if the result goes KU’s way, with just four matches left.
