Uhuru Kenyatta wins Kenyan Presidency at the edge of a knife

Kenyan President-elect, Kenyatta Uhuru

Uhuru Kenyatta has been declared Kenyan President-elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) today Saturday 9th. He narrowly survived a possibility of a re-run by winning 50.03 per cent of the vote.

Supporters of Kenyatta are joyfully celebrating on the streets in his tribal strongholds, lighting fluorescent flares and waving tree branches and chanting “Uhuru, Uhuru,” sources reveal.

Kenyatta’s main rival, Raila Odinga, got 43.28 percent of the vote. However, Odinga’s supporters are planning to go to court to challenge Kenyatta’s victory.

This is the second time Odinga has failed to become Kenyan President. Odiga lost in  a disputed vote in 2007 that led to tribal killings and displacement of thousands of Kenyans.

Kenyatta’s victory makes Kenya the second African country after Sudan to have a sitting President indicted by the International Criminal Court.
