Ugandans in the US demonstrate against Anite’s Admission in Tufts University

A group of Ugandans in the United States of America under the Common League of the Ugandan Diaspora (CLOUD) have staged a demonstration at Medford that lasted for more than eight hours against the admission of State Minister of Investment Evelyn Anite.

Anite, now a student of International Relations and Diplomacy at Tufts, a private research university in the state of Massachusetts, receives a payment USD 90,000 (42million Ugsh) for the course from the Ugandan government.

However, some Ugandans in the U.S accuse her of corruption and violation of human rights and that she is seeking asylum under the pretext of pursuing further studies.

They therefore urged the U.S government to terminate the minister’s admission emphasizing that as a democracy, America should not harbor corrupt government officials.

The protestors stormed the streets holding placards with belligerent inscriptions like “Anite should join Russian schools, USA is a democracy, not an Autocracy,”

According to Martin Byakuleka, the ClOUD President, Anite is an enemy of democracy and human rights in Uganda and has no right to attend a free world top school of International Affairs.  With the above assertion, He called for Anite’s discontinuation as an honour for global peace and security.

If Tufts University pays a deaf ear to their cause, the group is planning for another round of massive protest in August.

Evelyne Anite recently requested for permission to take leave from Parliament and Cabinet to attend classes in the U.S.
