Uganda Technology and Management University ranked 12th best university in Uganda

Uganda Technology and Management University

Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) has been ranked 12th best University in Uganda by the Webometrics, Ranking of World Universities.

While UTAMU comes in 12th among the 37 Universities in Uganda, it is ranked 353rd out of the 1307 Higher Academic Institutions in Africa, beating numerous institutions which have been in existence for decades.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, reacting to the news, said, “This is a preliminary indicator of great feats ahead. In spite of being in operation for two years, UTAMU has managed to beat academic institutions which have been in existence for decades. This attests to our commitment to stand out and build a leading and global institution of learning in Technology and Management”.

To say that the news of the ranking was ‘well received’ would be an understatement. Some Staff were seen exchanging hugs and handshakes for a job well-done during the course of the week.

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is one of the largest public research body in Spain that carries out thorough evaluation of Universities’ performances globally, taking into account their activities, product and relevance as well as their impact on the society in which they operate.

The body which is also known as “Ranking Web of World Universities”, bases its ranking on a composite indicator which takes into account the volume of the Web contents (number of web pages and files), visibility and impact of web publications.

Webometrics Ranking of World Universities began ranking Universities in 2004 with the intention of improving the presence of Academic and Research Institutions on the World Wide Web and easing access for publication of scientific results. Today, the body provides Web indicators for more than 12,000 Universities worldwide.
