The third season of what has now become an annual event- the Inter Institutional Media Challenge 2014 happened on 8th November 2014. The teams were impressive. At one point you would wonder which of the 10 teams was going away with the ultimate prize.
At the end of it, Uganda Christian University emerged as the best team in the English News Anchoring Category and UMCAT School of Journalism carried the day in the Luganda News Anchoring Category.
The institutions that participated were Makerere University, Multitech Business College, Ndejje University, Kampala University, Islamic University in Uganda, Cavendish University and Muteesa 1 Royal University.
Andrew Mwenda, the C.E.O of the Independent Magazine attended the event. He expressed concern that the level of professionalism in the media industry was going down.
“A story should always have these elements in it balance, truthfulness and context. But today it is hard to find a story in the papers that has all these elements in it. If it has balance, it lacks context, if it has context, it lacks truthfulness.” the Old Man of Clan complained
He was one of the winners of the day having walked away with the Life Achievement Award which NTV Maurice Mugisha handed to him.
Maurice Mugisha was grateful that the organizers of the event had given NTV the opportunity to work with them whereas Moses M Wataasa the Commissoner of Information in the Office of the Prime Minister urged journalism and communication students to consider taking up freelance opportunities with media houses.
