Uganda Christian University team has won the 8th Inter university Human Rights Debate. The competition took place on 6th March 2015 at Busitema University.

26 Institutions of Higher Learning participated in the competition  organised by Foundation for Human Rights Initiative.

The team from Uganda Christian University (UCU) was represented by three “Mariana fellows” lead by  President Luleti, Ibrahim Batambuze and Onesmus Mwesigwa who presented the paper.

UCU’s paper was voted the most researched paper. It also had the smartest presenters at the competition. At the end of the day,  Uganda Christian University team emerged victorious and carried home the human rights shield.

Nkumba university team became second while Makerere University turned third.

Politics behind the victory

Before the trip, UCU Guild president had refused to requisite fuel for the team to travel to Busitema University, he asserted that the guild didn’t have money to spend on such trips and competition,a member of the human rights association proceeded to the Dean of students office, who later granted the fuel.

The core reason as to why the guild refused to grant fuel to the team was because majority of them were of the university’s critic platform Launch pad which has at all forums criticized the expenditures of UCU Guild government headed by Arthur Baliruno.
