Uganda Christian University students emerged winners of the Inter-University debate organized by the Human Rights Club of Cavendish University.
The topic discussed was whether “Death Penalty” should be left in the hands of judges or be scrapped off.
The President of the Human Rights Club at Cavendish university, Mwosana Cathy Jackie noted that the topic was chosen so as to make necessary awareness on grand human-rights violations in the country.
“Through this debate, we can make a collective pronouncement on death penalty in Uganda and other related matters” Cathy told The Campus Times.
The debate that was held at Cavendish university on Friday 17th October attracted several students from Six universities in Uganda. These included:
- Makerere university
- Kampala university
- Kampala International University
- Uganda Christian University
- Busoga University
- Cavendish university
The mood was intellectually lively as debaters turned basic law jargon into common fodder during the debate.
“It’s everyone’s right to have life, and why should one cut someone’s life short”, the speaker of the human rights club, Mulinde Gideon said.
