Uganda Christian University Student Stabbed to Death in Bar

Cleophas Rukundo, a third year student of Bishop Barham University College Kabale, a constituent college of Uganda Christian University (UCU) has been stabbed to death in a bar brawl.

The deceased was allegedly stabbed with a knife in the armpits when he was out at New California T & J Transit bar and Hotel, a popular night spot and a hub for sex workers in Kabale town to celebrate finishing exams.

Rukundo was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

 Police report that Rukundo was drinking while dancing with a woman when a group of roisterers led by a one, Tom, a resident of Kigongi  Central Division Kabale Municipality approached him and a fight ensued.

According to eyewitnesses, Tom drew out a knife and dug it into Rukundo’s left armpit and fled into hiding.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, said that Rukundo’s body is at the hospital mortuary waiting for postmortem. Maate warned students against indulging in activities which will endager their studies but to concetrate on what brought them to school.

The bar has been sealed-off by Police until further notice to allow investigations into the matter.

This is the second incident at New California T & J Transit bar and Hotel of similar nature in less than four months.

In May 2018, Stephen Kankiriho, a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldier attached to the Special Forces Command (SFC) was also stabbed at the same pub by Joshua Tusingwire when the latter tried to forcefully grab a sex worker from him.
