Uganda Christian University launches Christian think tank

UCU

Uganda Christian University (UCU) has unveiled a Christian based think tank aimed at helping clerics to make biblical based proclamations.

The think tank dubbed Africa Policy Centre was launched during the annual UCU lecture on Wednesday 25th October by the Archbishop of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali at the university premises in Mukono.

According to the UCU Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Senyonyi, the think tank will work towards stopping pastors from preaching messages that appeal to the emotions of their folk without biblical or theological evidence.

Senyonyi says the launch of the think tank is timely because of the current political and religious climate.

Michael Mubangizi, the UCU Public Relations Officer, says the think tank will provide Christian based solutions to different research questions that they will take up.

The think tank will operate with an initial capital investment of Shillings 100 million. While inaugurating the think tank, Ntagali said it will be very helpful. “The center will help people in the entire country to address much pressing issues in society today. It will help us make the right policy choices as a country. It will be a blessing to this country and other countries as well.”

The think tank will be under the UCU School of research and postgraduate studies. So far, Africa Police Center has carried out research about land ownership in the country, abortion and the regulation of faith based organizations.

The 2016 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report ranks Uganda as having the second highest number of think tanks in East Africa following Kenya with 53 think tanks. Uganda is recorded as having 28 think tanks while Tanzania comes third with 15.
