UFL: St Lawrence, MUBS Qualify for Quarterfinals

St Lawrence University (SLAU) sealed their quarterfinal spot in the 2022 Pepsi University Football League (UFL) after winning Group D.

SLAU finished top of Group D after a 4-1 victory over YMCA on Sunday, July 10. In a game played at Crown City Campus, Kavule playground, Dennis Kalanzi bagged a hat-trick and Bruno Bunyaga added another for SLAU to triumph. SLAU, who top the group with 11 points, progress to the knockout stage of the competition.

Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) against Makerere University was the other game played on the same day in Mbarara and it ended 3-1 in favour of Makerere.
With this victory, Makerere finished runners-up in the group with nine points.

Meanwhile, YMCA finished third on eight points. Mbarara, who got only a single point, are bottom of the group.

SLAU joined defending champions Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Kyambogo University, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) Nkozi, Bugema University and Nkumba University in the knockout stage.

The final knockout slot still pending will be filled after a ruling on petitions over use of ineligible players. Victoria University lodged a complaint against Kumi University for alleged use of mercernaries.
