YMCA increased their chances of going into the quarterfinals of the University Football League after their 2-0 victory over Bishop Stuart in a thrilling encounter held in Mbarara on Wednesday afternoon.
Frank Lubega scored both goals to ensure that YMCA returns to Kampala with maximum points go on top of group A with nine points.
“I’m very happy and excited to have scored my first two goals for YMCA and to have guided my team to a 2-0 win which ensured that we are now back on top of the log,” Lubega said before adding
“I thank my entire teammates because it was a team win, we worked tirelessly together and we were able to win”
“It’s the speed to splint that helped me to take on defenders of the opposite team so easily and I promise to play the same way in our last game of the group stages, ” he added.
YMCA needs only a point in their last group A game against Nkumba University to secure a slot in quarterfinals of the tournament, Bishop Stuart remains bottom of the log without a single point after five games.
“It’s a disappointing moment for us because this result left us without any chance whatsoever but only out of the competition with a game to play against Bugema University,” Bishop Stuart University team captain Wilber Masereka said
Group A action returns on Friday, April 19th when second-placed Nkumba University visit third-placed Bugema University as both sides are targeting maximum points to secure the quarter-final slot.
