On Wednesday 11th October 2017, the Honourable Minster of Education and Sports Janet Kataaha Museveni officiated at the release of the 10th Examinations results at President’s Office Conference hall in Kampala.
On the release of the May/June 2017 Examinations, the Minister of Education and Sports First Lady Janet Museveni hailed UBTEB for ensuring credible assessment of business, technical, vocational and specialized professions in Uganda.
“I also congratulate UBTEB upon this 10th release of UBTEB results. Since the Board commenced operations six years ago, UBTEB has worked tirelessly to ensure a credible assessment system that enables our young people to join the world of work with the required knowledge, skills and attitude”
UBTEB registered major milestones in the release of the results in terms of increase in the number of accredited training institutions, increase in female enrolment and best performance by female students in technical Diploma programmes and over all increase in the pass rate at 71.4%.
The Minister was impressed with the performance of female students and enrolment in vocational institutions and appreciated the growing number of examinations centres accredited by UBTEB since 2011. “I have learnt that the number of BTVET institutions accredited as UBTEB examination centers has increased from 184 and are currently 472 within six years. Equally commendable is the fact that the completion rate of the candidates that have acquired full competences and are ready to join the world of work now stands at 71.4 percent. “ Minister stated.
The Board Chairperson Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba said that UBTEB is committed to ensure standardization of Post O’Level awards and will ensure that quality is maintained in all the systems of the Board. “I am happy to report that the issue of assessment and accreditation of Post ‘O’ level Certificate programs was sorted in the meeting convened by the Director HTVET with officials from BTVET Department, UBTEB and National Council for Higher Education.
It was agreed that all Post Ordinary Level Certificate programs will take a teaching duration of two years regardless of which institutions is offering them.” Baryamureeba said. He added that “It was also agreed that assessment and examination will be done by UBTEB. This is meant to bring harmony in assessment of skills in the BTVET sub sector and your support to compel all institutions to adhere to these guidelines will be appreciated”
Accordingly, Mr.Oyesigye Onesmus appealed to institutions not currently presenting candidates for assessment by UBTEB to do so in accordance with the Solictor general guidance of 2017. “ There are still some tertiary institutions that do not present their candidates for UBTEB national examinations, and this undermines the intentions of the BTVET Act and harmonization of qualifications and competencies in the sub sector”. Oyesigye stated.
The Board after official release of results by the Minister issued examinations results together with Transcripts of all successful candidates. The Board also issued certificates of candidates who completed in 2015. The heads of Training institutions were called upon to make sure that the Board receives the feedback on released results in a period of 14 days after the release of results.
