Two Accountants needed at Uganda Industrial Research Institute

Job Title: Accountants (2 Career Vacancies)

Uganda Industrial Research Institute is Uganda Government’s lead agency for industrialization, established by an Act of Parliament of Uganda under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade Industry and cooperatives (MTIC). It is the country’s main vehicle for implementing strategies and measures aimed at transforming industry in Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Develop a database for all income and expenditure accounts
  • Timely updates of the budget and share with key implementation partners.
  • Prepare periodic accounts receivable and payable returns
  • Reconcile revenue and expenditure reports
  • Manager NTR records (Revenue and expenses)
  • Verify and validate expenditure and credits with statements of accounts and initial invoices
  • Guide the coding and maintenance of financial records
  • Prepare financial reports such as revenue summaries, Non tax revenues and trail balance reports
  • Review, prepare and submit monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Detect, prevent and report fraud / fraudulent attempts (forensic accounting)
  • Respond to routine account information queries
  • Actively participate in the implementation of accounting and UIRI internal controls
  • Prepare ledgers and trail balance for the institute
  • Post the abstract of revenue and expenditure
  • Update asset register.
  • Prepare and analyse periodic releases, expenditures, balance sheet and cash flows for Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK) and UIRI projects.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any of the following: B.COM, Business Administration with Accounting/ Finance major.
  • Additional professional qualification in accounting like CPA, ACCA or any other accountancy professional body is an added advantage.
  • The applicant must possess three years’ experience with knowledge of government accounting procedures.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills in MS Office suite and quick at mastering systems.
  • Possess the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Age: 28-40 years
