The Vision Group incorporated as the New Vision Printing & Publishing Company Limited (NVPPCL), started the business in March 1986. It is a multimedia business housing newspaper, magazines, internet publishing, television, radio broadcasting, commercial printing, advertising and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, with an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY 2010/2011).

Job Summary:  The Trainee Production Journalist will edit content for the print, digital and online platforms and design it to meet audience needs resulting in audience and revenue growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Edit content for print, website and digital platforms. . Write and edit well angled, accurate, balanced content aimed at engaging the audience.
  • Edit stories to suit the newspaper’s housestyle, editorial policy and journalism standards.
  • Present and layout content in appropriate design
  • Support the editing and production of online content- text, audios and videos.
  • Ensure quality content – coherent, free of libel and inaccuracies and appealing target audiences.
  • Support the selection and preparation of appropriate illustrations-photos, graphics for relevant platforms.
  • Support the quality checking process by peer reviewing. Proof-reading and giving feedback on content.
  • Manage deadlines according to production schedules.
  • Participate in product planning and development meetings.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • Communication/Journalism/graphics design skills an added advantage.
  • Proficient in the English language both written and spoken.
  • Proficient in the use of basic computer packages.
  • Good understanding of the social and cultural environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of local and foreign news/trends and media landscape.
  • Appreciation of the Arts.
