The Parliament of Uganda Honours Shs100M Pledge to Ghetto Kids

Today 18th February 2020, the Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirige handed over the dummy cheque of shs 114m to the Ghetto kids at Parliament to fulfill the promise.

In December 2019, members of parliament pledged to contribute shs 250000 each after Triplets Ghetto Kids were threatened by their landlord to  be evicted  from the house they lived in  if they don’t clear his balance of Shs102m.

This house is located at Makindye, Kampala.

According to Jane Kibirige, shs100 million will be paid to the landlord while shs14.25 million will go to the kids to support them in school and performances.

The Speaker Rebecca Kadaga thanked the MPs for adhering to the cause saying it was a worthwhile venture owing to the contribution made by the young dancers in promoting Uganda abroad.

“At their age, they have promoted Uganda abroad and lifted our flag high; so we thought it wise to support them to continue with school and performances,” Kadaga said.

Kadaga also tasked the Clerk to Parliament to fast-track the transfer of property from the property owner to the dance group.

Speaking on behalf of the Ghetto Kids, Patricia Nabakooza said “By offering to fundraise towards clearing our debt, it shall always be remembered that the Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga and the 10th Parliament offered to put a roof on over our heads; no words can really describe the joy we have”

Ghetto Kids have promoted Uganda abroad and lifted Ugandan flag high through  music and dance.
