Tension is high as Kenyans vote

Kenyan presidential candidate, Raila Odinga speaking to the crowd at an election rally in Iten, Kenya

Tension is high as Kenyans prepare to cast their votes on 4th March 2013. The general elections will include electing the President, Senators, County Governors, Members of Parliament, Civic Wards and Women country representatives.

The presidential candidates include Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya of National Alliance Party, Musalia Mudavadi of the Jubilee Coalition, Peter Kenneth of Kenya National Congress, Raphael Tuju of Party of Action, Joseph Ole Kiyiapi of Restore And Build Kenya Party and the only lady in the race,Martha Karua of NARC Kenya.

However statistics in Kanya show that either Raila Odinga or Uhuru Kenyata will win the race.

East African Community countries are worried if a similar violent situation that occurred in the previous Kenyan elections repeats.

After the last Kenyan elections in 2007, over 1100 people were killed and 600000 fled their homes as a result of the post-election violence.

The violence did not only affect Kanya but also trade in Uganda was greatly affected. Fuel prices shot up which led to the increase in the cost of living.
