Job Title: Technician (Electrical & Electronic)

Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) is a body corporate established under an Act of Parliament to construct, operate and maintain railway, marine and road services both inside and outside Uganda for the carriage of passengers and goods. As a result of privatisation of operations, the mandate of URC changed from that of an operator to that of asset holder, concession monitor and advisor on railway technical matters.
Job Summary: Responsible to the foreman, to ensure timely production outputs and quality control in the section production outputs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiation of materials and tools requisitions.
- Executes repair or maintenance activities jobs according to specifications and set standards,
- Ensures quality of workmanship.
- Ensures use and accurate completion of the necessary documentation.
- Responsible for timely completion of work
- Ensures appropriate maintenance of tools and measuring instruments
- Ensures conducive environment and safety of personnel & tools.
- Performs other duties assigned by foreman. on daily basis
Key Deliverables
- Schedules and prioritizes repairs and maintenance jobs or activities within the section.
- Assigns staff to specific jobs.
- Sets work targets for the section.
- Monitors quality of work outputs from the section.
- Authorizes daily material requisition & usage
- Monitors accuracy of work & documentation
- Monitors timelines of work assigned
- Supervises tool use and measuring instrument maintenance
- Creates conducive work environment
- Strictly monitors safety of staff & tools
- Willingly carries out other duties assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Diploma or it’s equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
- Relevant Post Graduate certificate is an added advantage.
- Skills in Computer applications particularly; Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- The applicant should have demonstrable experience in electrical / electronic repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of Locomotives and workshop machinery/plants.
- At least three (3) years working experience in Locomotive’s inspections, maintenance and repair activities.
- At least three (3) years working experience in Locomotive’s inspections, maintenance and repair activities
- Capable of working under pressure
- Ability to work with people of diverse cultural /ethnic background, gender, and beliefs
- Team player,
- Good communication skills,
- Must be keen on details,
- Works in organized manner,
- Keeps time.
