JOB DETAILS:
USAID’s integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition Activity (ICAN) is USAID/ Uganda’s flagship resilience project, awarded in July 2018. The Activity goal is to enhance the resilience of vulnerable households in the eight districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukungiri (Kigezi sub-region); Guulu, Lamwo. Nwoya (Acholi sub-region); Kaabong and Kotido (Karamoja sub—region). In Karamoja region.
The overall objective of the project is to sustanably enhance the resilience of vulnerable hourreholds in areas of Operation by maximizing economic opportunities for vulnerable households, stabilizing their access to end consumption of diverse and nutritious diets and increase social capital by reinforcing relationships among formal governance systems and communities.
Position: Technical Lead/ Environmental Compliance and Natural Resource Management
Reports to: Deputy Chief of Party
Location: Kampala
Travel: Domestic up to 50%
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Technical Lead/Environment Compliance and Natural Resource Management (TL/ECGNRNU is responsible for provision of technical solutions on ICAN whilst assisting other omplcyrieri especially tho regional teams to design and implement technically sound NRM interventions, The Team Lead also undertakes review of proposed activities and determines the relevant environmental compliance actions and ensures that any necessary mitigation activities teke place.
The TL/EC&NRM shall work with ICAN stall to design and implement a) interventions that comply with National Environment Management Authority (NMA) and USAlD Uganda environmental design and management principles and policy, ti) interventions that consider the impacts of climatic change, and c) lmpactial NRM interventions in the ICAN intervention areas,.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• smart modmendations on how to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and implementation of Activities, related to environmental compliance and NRM.
• opportunities for improvement, communicate them persuasively to management endjmplementation partners for adoption.
• guidance and suppon in the area of climate smart programming, NRM but also on compliance with the NEMA and USAID Uganda Environmental Policy.
• the custudian of the ICAN Environmental Mitigation and Monitoring Plan (EMMP), monitoring, reporting, and staff/IP training.
• failcitites adopment of and/or review of program quality assurance standards, and methods in climate smart programming, NRM and monitoring the impact of IBAN interventions on the environment.
• Participates of deiiverabies/achievements; carry out formal and informal checks on the quality of implementation and documentations.
• lead inTanrewing MEL data relevant to Environmental Compliance and NRM and lead evidence hasod programmatic discussions aimed at improving Activity performance.
• consultation with the team, establish and maintain strong working relationships with other USAID implementing partners to explore opportunities for leverage and synergies that catalyze the Activity key performance indicators related to environment, climate smart agriculture, and NRM,
• and manage effective relationships with private sector and district local government (and NEMA) partners and represent the Activity in networks that are relevant to NRM and environmental mitigation and to policy compliance.
• Consultation with the team, provide thought leadership in development of annual work plan, quarterly report and monthly sector updates ior the respective sector.
• Leadership identification of learning opportunities for the regional teams based on gaps realized from day to day implementation. This shall among others include provision of on-the-job mentorship and coaching.
• Consultation with the team and the Communications Specialist, document lessons learned for publicity/sharing with other stakeholders.

Education
• Master’s degree in Environmental/ Natural Resource Management related subjects, Agricultural Sciences, Development Sciences or other relevant field. Farther training in related fields is an added advantage.
