Student at Bishop Stuart University commits suicide

Henry Kamusiime is no more after being found dead in an eucalyptus plantation on Rwomugina Hill in Kakiika Parish. He was a second-year student at Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara district studying a degree course in Education.

Besides where his body was lying, police found there two bottles containing Almatix, a veterinary acaricide and water which Kamusiime is believed to have taken. Almatix is a concentration used to kill ticks, mites and lice from animals, especially from cattle.

Investigations into the cause of his death have started by the police.

The OC CIID Mbarara police, Mr Ian Kakuru, said: “We are still investigating the cause of his death but according to information gathered at the scene of crime and beyond, Kamusiime could have taken his life after gambling his tuition fees.

“We are not sure if it was suicide. Students have their problems of girlfriend and boyfriend and without forgetting this rampant vice of betting where they end up betting tuition fees. We need to first establish if he had paid tuition,” said John Mwesigwa, the Dean of Students according to a reporter of The daily monitor newspaper.

Elineo Mwine, a former roommate to Kamusiime, said he had no clue about his problems that forced him to commit suicide.

“I was with him on Monday but as you know at university, everyone minds their own lives. I didn’t know where he went and what happened until I received news that Henry had been breathed his last,” he narrated.

His body was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post mortem.

May His Soul Rest in Peace
