The speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwatara Kadaga has urged Nkumba university law students to be cautious of the law if they are to become future vital legal practitioners.
Speaking at 10th annual Lawyers’ Day organized by the Nkumba university law society under the theme “Justice and Jurisdiction”, In a speech read by Ofwombi Oboth Member of Parliament Budama North, Kadaga advised students to study hard so as to pass exams instead of cheating.
She also said it is unprofessional for law students to lead strikes at the university.
“Sometimes we read in Newspapers that you lead strikes but please bear in mind that the way you conduct yourself today will determine your carrier tomorrow.” Kadaga advised.
Addressing the students on behalf of the university, the Dean of students Christopher David Kasasa advised students to be keen with the law they are studying and learn how to interpret it to the rest of the students.
He also tasked them to make as many connections as possible during social events.
The function was attended by the retired Supreme Court Judge, Prof. George William Kanyeihamba who offered clerkship placements to the students at his Law firm.
At the same function Nkumba university law society president, Alex Kagama handed over a goat to the third year students for having won an inter-class tournament that is always organized prior to the Lawyers day.
