Soroti University Professor Collapses to Death in Planning Meeting

Dr. Ongodia was a professor from the school of health science. He allegedly collapsed in the boardroom suddenly after making his presentation.

A university source who prefered anonymity told daily monitor that Dr Ongodia was in a normal state at the time he parked at the campus Tuesday morning.

“He was strong by the time we saw him arriving in his vehicle. We don’t know what happened to him. We wait to hear from his family, perhaps he had a history of pressure, we can’t tell now,” the source explained.

According to Juma Hassan Nyene, the university spokesperson, professor’s body has been delivered to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital and will be taken to Mulago national hospital for the postmortem.

The boardroom was in preparation for the next week’s meeting with officials from Uganda National Council for Higher Education (UNCHE).

Dr.Thomas Aisu Ongodia had served as a Medical Officer (laboratory specialist) at World Health Organization (WHO).

He also served as head of Department Medical Microbiology at Makerere University Medical School Uganda at the time he was working as head of National TB Reference Laboratory.

Dr. Ongodia was also a consultant pathologist at Mulago National Referral Hospital until recently when he was recruited as an Associate professor for Soroti University which is yet to open.
