About US Embassy:

The United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Uganda for over 30 years.  Ambassador Natalie E. Brown currently heads the U.S Mission to Uganda.  The Mission is composed of several offices and organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at the direction of the Ambassador.

Among the offices operating under the U.S Mission to Uganda are:

  • United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Peace Corps

Job Summary:  The Shipment Supervisor is responsible for the management and supervision of the Shipping and Customs section.  They serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in facilitating inbound and outbound shipments and customs clearance of personal and official effects, privately owned vehicles (POV), and other property of U.S. citizen personnel and U.S. Government equipment and supplies.  The position is under the supervision of the Assistant General Services Officer (A-GSO).

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

NOTE:  All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  • The applicants for the United States US Embassy Shipment Supervisor job should have completed two years college studies. Required.
  • At least four years of experience in the field of international customs, shipping, logistics or transportation is required. An additional one (1) year of supervisory experience in the field of international customs, shipping, logistics, or transportation is also required.
  • Detailed knowledge of local government import/export and customs laws, policies and procedures, including tax policies.
  • Detailed knowledge of local motor vehicle policies with respect to registration, transfer, licensing, and taxes.
  • Detailed knowledge of shipping regulations for the Department of State and other USG agencies.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of local government structures, power relationships, and methods of operation.
  • Must possess excellent supervisory and management skills and the ability to deal with people effectively and diplomatically, teamwork, leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to develop contacts at all levels in the local and private sector.
  • Must be comfortable and able to deal with mid to high-level US and local government contacts.
  • Ability to draft detailed diplomatic communications and reports in English.
  • Must have a valid, current license. This may be tested.
  • Language: Level 4 – Fluent; written/spoken, including the ability to translate. This may be tested
