Security tightened as Uganda Christian University students threaten to strike

There is a “bee hive‘ of police officers deployed at Uganda Christian University (UCU) following students’ plans to demonstrate against unfair policies.

Students are dissatisfied with the University’s tuition policy that requires them to pay 50% of the fees at the beginning of the semester and completion of pending balance within two months.

Some students say the tuition is too high and such a policy is very unfair. A student studying a Bachelor’s course in Mass Communication pays 3,500,000/= per semester while the one taking on a Law course pays about 2,600,000/=  per Semester. Bachelors of Business Administration goes for 2,400,000/=.

“We pay much money and paying 50% is not easy for our parents given the limited time especially for May -Sept intakes”, a student who preferred not to be mentioned told Campus Times.

The Tuition policy aside, students are not also happy with the university’s idea of locking the gates. The university administrators say the gates are locked for security purposes but students want these gates opened.

The other issue is about path-ways which students say are too dusty.
