Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema Wins Ballon D’Or Award 2022

France Football has named Karim Benzema as the winner of this year’s Ballon d’Or award, which was held in Paris on Monday, October, 17th, 2022.

The Real Madrid forward was given the award following his fantastic performance for Real Madrid during the just concluded 2021/22 football season.

The Frenchman was a key figure for the Galaticos when they won the La Liga and UEFA Champions League against Liverpool at the Stade de France, he also won the UEFA Nations League with France.

Benzema was the overwhelming favourite for the award following his goalscoring record playing for Real Madrid. He scored 48 goals and recorded 12 assists in 45 games for Madrid.

The 34-year-old had previously won the UEFA Player of the Year because of his performance in the competition. Kevin De Bruyne finished in third place while Sadio Mane came in second place.

The major omission from the nominees of this year’s award was the winner of rhe 2021 award ceremony, Lionel Messi. According to reports, the Argentine had poor form for PSG in the league during the 2021/22 season.
