Professor John Chrysostom Maviiri, Vice Chancellor Uganda Martyrs University

Professor John Chrysostom Maviiri is the new Vice Chancellor of Uganda Martyrs University. His appointment starts in January 2015.

Professor John Chrysostom started his lecturing career at St. Mbaaga Major Seminary College (1987 – 1991) and advanced himself in the same profession as a lecturer, senior lecturer and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Catholic University East Africa – CUEA (1995 – 2002).

He holds a Diploma in Philosophy (Alokolum, Uganda), a Diploma in Theology (Ggaba, Uganda), another Diploma in Theology (Makerere University), a Licentiate and a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology (Pontifical Urban University, Italy).

He has supervised a good number of students at all levels of higher education. Professor Maviiri served in the following administrative positions; Chairman, Committee for Ecumenism of Archdiocese of Kampala, Uganda (1987-1995), Chairman, Board of Governors Ggaba Teachers Training College (1991 – 1995), Chairman, Board of Governors Our Lady of Good Counsel Secondary School, Ggayaaza (1993 – 1995) and as a Public Relations Officer and Chairman of Finance Committee of Uganda Joint Christian Council Monitoring Team.

He was the Rector at St. Mbaaga Major Seminary College (1989 – 1991), Dean of the Faculty of Theology of CUEA (1996 – 2002) and the Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University East Africa – CUEA (2002-2011).

Besides his doctoral Dissertation, he has published a good number of articles in academic journals, including: African Christian Studies, CUEA Publications, http://www.slideshare.net/IAU_Past_Conferences/utrecht-sb-john-c-maviiri, Professor Maviiri has participated in many academic events and presented conference papers at several National, Local, and International Conferences, workshops and seminars, and he holds membership of over five professional bodies.

Additionally he has made tremendous contribution as: the Africa Representative on the Board of Administration of the International Federation of Catholic Universities [IFCU], 2006 – 2011, President of the Association of Catholic Higher Institutes of Africa and Madagascar [ACUHIAM], 2006 – 2010, Member and Founder of the Kenya Association of Private Universities [KAPU], 2005 – 2011, Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities [ACU], 2002 – 2011, Member of the International Association of Universities [IAU], 2002 – 2011, Member of the Association of African Universities [AAU], 2002 – 2011.
