Prof. Vincent Kakembo, the Vice Chancellor of Muteesa 1 Royal University

Prof. Vincent Kakembo has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University.

He becomes the fifth Vice-Chancellor since the University’s inception in 2007.

He takes over from Prof. Arthur Sserwanga whose contract was terminated in 2017.

Prof Kakembo has been working at Nelson Mandela University in South Africa.

He holds a PhD from the prestigious Rhodes University in Grahamstown. He taught at Forte Hare where Nelson Mandela got his law degree before joining the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth.

His research interests are Erosion forms, Hillslope hydrology, landscape function, land use and cover/vegetation change, GIS and remote sensing applications. His PhD is in remote sensing.

He got his Bachelor in Physical Geography from Makerere University and a Master of Science in Geomorphology, GIS, and Remote Sensing from Rhodes University.

Prof Kakembo assumed office after an inaugural ceremony witnessed by the Buganda Kingdom Minister of Education, Dr Prosperous Nankindu, the University Chancellor, Julia Ssebutinde, the Chairperson University Council Dr Frank Ssebowa and Council Member Prof. John Ddumba Ssentamu among others.

Muteesa I Royal University is one of the private universities in Uganda.

It was founded by Buganda Kingdom with the main campus located in Masaka town.

Philimon Badagawa

Philimon Badagawa is a multimedia journalist with skills in news gathering, packaging, editing and online publishing. He has knowledge in data visualization, can design and manage websites. He previously worked as a journalist with Observer media and authored several articles and stories. He does research, video & audio recording, editing and production for online publication. He Participated in The New Dawn photography campaign aimed at rebranding Northern Uganda-USAID/NUTI Project (2010). Philimon is in love with photography, writing, reading, sharing new ideas and interacting with reasonable people for skills development.
