Prof.Mondo Kagonyera installed as Kampala University Chancellor

Prof. Mondo Kagonyera has been installed as the new Chancellor of Kampala University, one of the private chartered universities in Uganda.

He received the instruments of power during the 15th Graduation ceremony of Kampala University held on Wednesday 7th March 2018.

During the graduation, a total of 2,932 graduates were passed out in different academic courses.

According to the academic registrar of Kampala University, majority of the graduates were females (1,679). Male graduates were 1,244.

Professor George Mondo Kagonyera is the former Chancellor of Makerere University, the oldest public university in Uganda. He was the second non-Head-of-State Chancellor of Makerere University, the first being Rt. Hon. Professor Apolo Robin Nsibambi, a distinguished alumnus of Makerere University and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda.

Professor Kagonyera was first appointed Chancellor of Makerere University by President Yoweri Museveni on the recommendation of the Makerere University Council on 23rd October 2007.

Prof Mondo Kagonyera being installed as the 1st Chancellor of Kabale University in 2016.

He served his second four-year term, following his re-appointment by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda on 24th October 2011 and re-installation on 12th January 2012. His second term of office ended on 23rd October 2015.

His association with Makerere started in 1971 when he joined the University as a Teaching Staff, and actively participated in the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.  He rose through the ranks to become a prominent Academician until he left in 1988 to take up a Ministerial appointment.

He also served as the Chairperson of Appointments Board, Makerere University from 1993 to 1999. Professor Kagonyera has served in almost all major Academic and Administrative facets of the University life.  He has published widely in the Science field and has strong regard for research in Sciences. His successful and impressive career in Makerere University spanned 18 years.

Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera is also the Chancellor of Kabale University.

Outside the University, Professor Kagonyera has served in various capacities as a Member of Parliament  and as a Minister in various portfolios and has shown exceptional brilliance and consistency in loyalty and dedication to this country.

He is an academician of long and proven expertise and his service to Makerere University as a Teacher, Researcher and Chairperson of the Appointments Board and Chancellor has won him great admiration.
