Prof. Baryamureeba tells teachers to embrace ICT

Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba has urged teachers to embrace ICT in order to become independent, knowledgeable and self sustaining.  He said that there is a lot of learning resources and material online which are beneficial to both the teachers and their students.

The Vice chancellor of Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU) was speaking at the Post eLearning Africa Conference Action seminar at Trinity College, Nabbingo.

He said that though ICT has been incorporated in Uganda’s education curriculum  and that many schools have computers, there has been little done to enrich the teachers’ and students’ skills using them for self empowerment.

Baryamuraba also cautioned that it is not true that ICT is only for the youth, (the dot com era as refereed to ) but can be used by everyone to approach day to day challenges.

The conference attended by over 1000 secondary school head teachers was organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports in conjunction with United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Learn with Grandma and Kisubi Associated Writers Agency (KAWA) aimed at promoting ICT education practices in Ugandan schools.
