Prisons, UPDF Win Handball league Accolades

Prisons Women’s team and Uganda People’s Defence Forces, UPDF (men) were affirmed the 2012 National Handball league champions at Nkumba University on Saturday 24th.This followed the final circuit of games played at the Nkumba Handball courts, where Prisons convincingly humbled the hosts to clinch the National Title in a series of games played at humid skyline.Juliet Nakafeero and Skipper Lillian Badaru’s inspired performances propelled Prisons to a comfortable 27-22 victory over the hosts, Nkumba University to claim the top spot on 18 points. UPDF, who lost their last game against Prison Spears (31-30) in a tense and very physical battle, still returned home jubiliating having claimed the title in the earlier circuit .

” This is a sweet victory and i thank God who has enabled us finish the league on top given the fact that we missed the first round game against Nkumba due to financial constraints”, remarked the veteran Badaru with a wide smile across her face. Prisons finished top of the ladies’ league on 16 points while Nkumba University claimed the runners up slot on 14, UPDF (13), Police (8) and Ever Green (4) followed in that order.

In the other games played, Ever Green suffered a double loss against UPDF and Nkumba with 19-28 and 32-26 respectively in the ladies category while Prison Arrows edged Police Metro by a point margin (31-30), Ever Green beat Police Metro 26-21 and Prison Arrows were 40 to 36 victors over hosts Nkumba University in the men’s category.

The award giving ceremony that had been planned to take place after the games could not be effected due to inadequate lighting system and a date shall be communicated later.
