Premier League Clubs Struggle in Champions League Round of 16

Premier League Sides Fail to Impress in Champions League at the round of 16 stages.

The champions league round of 16 first leg kicked off last week with teams playing on the 14th and 15th of February; games like Bayern vs PSG, Tottenham vs Ac Milan, and Chelsea vs Dortmund among others were played.

The other games were played this week such as Liverpool vs Real Madrid, and Man City vs Rb Leipzig.

It was a tough start for Premier League Clubs in this round with all of them failing to secure wins against their opponents.

Here is how Premier league teams performed in the champions league

Chelsea Vs Dortmound

Borussia Dortmund beat Chelsea 1-0 in the Champions League last 16 first leg thanks to a stunning solo goal from Karim Adeyemi.

Adeyemi’s brilliantly executed solo strike midway through the second half dealt a further blow to Graham Potter’s Chelsea, who lost for the fourth time in 2023.

The second leg at Stamford Bridge is on Tuesday, March 7.

AC Milan vs Tottenham spurs

Brahim Diaz’s early goal condemned Tottenham to a 1-0 loss against AC Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie but Antonio Conte feels their fans can roar them on to victory back in north London.

The second leg at Tottenham Hotspur stadium Bridge is on Wednesday, March 8

Liverpool vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid came from two goals down to beat Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield in a truly incredible Champions League last-16 clash. In a repeat of last season’s final, Liverpool was looking to prove they really had turned a corner after recent wins over Everton and Newcastle and were well on track to do so. Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah gave the Reds the perfect start, two goals up and flying inside 14 minutes.

The second leg at Santiago Bernabéu is on Wednesday, March 15

Rb Leipzig vs Manchester City

RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol scored a second-half header, cancelling out Riyad Mahrez’s strike to earn a 1-1 with Manchester City in their Champions League last 16 clash on Wednesday.

City’s star striker Erling Haaland suffered from a lack of service, with the Norwegian clearly missing ill midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

The second leg at Etihad stadium is on Tuesday, March 14

The second leg commences in March and premier league teams will need to fight harder to proceed to the quarter-finals
