Police Cracks Down Motorcycle Theft Gang In North Kyoga And 18 Were Recovered The Flying Squad Unit in coordination with the territorial units in North Kyoga region and Oyam carried out an intelligence–led operation, in Obangangeo village, Acaba sub-county in Oyam district, where they arrested 4 suspects, who form part of the criminal gang behind attacks on boda boda riders and the subsequent robbery of their motorcycles in Lango sub-region.

According to the police spokesperson SCP Fred Enang, the 4 suspects include Obang Emmanuel, a 49-year-old, peasant of Obal “B” village, Engol David, a 40-year-old peasant of Owaka village, Adupa Daniel a 23-year-old peasant of Otwee “B” village and Owiny Tonny a 27-year-old, peasant of Owaka village, all in Oyam district.

“Upon interrogation, they identified their gang leader as Ayo Ambrose, a notorious robber who deals in stolen motorcycles in the Lango sub-region and the neighboring districts,” said Enanga.

He added on and said that so far 18 motorcycles have been recovered including 3 Yamahas and 15 Bajaj Boxers, from the home of Ayo Ambrose who is on the run.

“The number plates of the retrieved boda boda include UP 3712 Yamaha YBR, Yamaha DT Numberless, Yamaha XL reg. no. UEB 299Q, Mahindra reg. no. UEX 110X, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UER 688C, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFE 791J, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFB 761Q, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UEW 019J, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UDY 163R, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UEX 435F, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UEW 208Q, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFA 917C, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UEH 212M, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFF 786B, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFD 093E, Bajaj Boxer red in color reg. no. UFG 260J, Bajaj Boxer numberless, and Bajaj Boxer numberless,” said Enanga.

All the motorcycles and suspects were transferred to Lira City West Division for further management. The modus operandi, used by the criminal gang are master keys and direct physical attacks of riders and robbery of motorcycles. Against this background, we urge all boda boda riders to watch out for motorcycle thieves, who use profitable journeys to lure them, into their ambushes, both day and night.

Enanga furthermore urged the boda boda riders to install modern alarms on their motorcycle.

“We would also like to warn dealers in secondhand motorcycles and spares to always check the identity of the motorcycle, to ensure the chassis and engine number are not changed,” Enanga said

“We want to stress the importance of using a combination of barriers to stop boda boda thefts. Our task teams have made this fight a priority and continue to gather, exchange, and analyze intelligence surrounding dealers of stolen motorcycles and chop shops.”
