PHOTOS: How Makerere university strike was handled

Makerere university strike; Students had their lunch at the freedom square.

Prof Ddumba loses it once more to Ivan Bwowe’s Guild Government pressure. Guys let’s go and eat food next semester, at na mutima! Eee Ddumba zeeeee! Eeee Eating food zoeeeeh!, a concerned Makerere university student happily said at the end of the peaceful strike on Monday 14th July.

As demanded by the students, meals were returned.  The Vice Chancellor assured student that the 10% tuition increment will be handled if the Guild officials write to the university council justifying the need for its scrapping.

This time, the strike was handled calmly by both the students and police. There was no violence, no arrests and the normal oxygen was breathed in at the Ivory Tower; No tire gas was fired by police. Kudos anyway for such a peaceful demonstration that yielded some fruits at its end.

There was no violence this time and police officers were friendly to the striking students.

Thanks to all of you we turned up in numbers for the Demo to save our beloved Makerere Universiity. The Meal issue is now settled…Our Full focus turns to 10% Policy…We have been promised it can scrapped…Keep you ears on ground for any new Development, Ivan Bwowe, Makerere university Guild President told students.

Here we go……Meal time?
