The Africa Centre of Excellence for Pharm-Biotechnology and Traditional Medicine (PHARMBIOTRAC) was  launched at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) at a ceremony held at the Lake View Hotel, Mbarara  on Monday 13th November 2017.

The launch was presided over by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Nixon Kamukama.

PHARMBIOTRAC at MUST is providing a regional platform for innovative drug development, including exploring the use of traditional medicine in the region under the goal: “to build a critical mass of specialized and skilled human resource that can advance traditional medicine and Pharm-Biotechnology for socio-economic development of Africa.

The program was recently earmarked as one of the World Bank funded African Centres of Excellence and is regionally coordinated by the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA),

PHARMBIOTRAC has introduced Masters and PhD graduate training programs tailored to skill professionals, enable research and create capacity for the commercialization of products in bio-technology and traditional medicine.
