Newly promoted Stade Reims will face an ultimate test on Wednesday when they travel to face the Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday .
Reims have had good performances since getting promoted into the League. The visitors won two opening games 1-0 against the lofty opponents of Nice and Lyon.
The visitors later fell to two shock defeats Amiens (1-4) and Montpellier (0-1). Reims were a little complacent in these games and were rightfully punished for this.
The most recent two games ended in 0-0 draws. They were drab affairs, but Reims were always going to have a tough time against Nantes and a high-flying Dijon side so David Guion was right to set up his team in the way he did.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint Germain nursed the Liverpool wounds in champions league by coming from behind to beat Rennes 3-1 in the League.
PSG have won all of their Ligue 1 games this season but will have to start thrashing the weaker teams if they want to be taken seriously in Europe and that’s what we think they will attempt here.
PSG have scored at least three times in every one of their league matches this season but Reims have a generally solid defensive record and have only conceded once in their last five games if you remove the freak four conceded at Amiens.
Reims have only lost one of their last seven games and with the buzz of a journey to the Parc des Princes in their sails, we think it won’t be a complete thrashing by PSG. With Reims’ defensive record being so good with four clean sheets this season and PSG looking poor against Rennes, we’re going to back a 2-0 win for Paris. The champions should still win but we doubt it will be a 4-0 or 5-0 demolition.
Kylian Mbappe is still injured for this game. Dani Alves and Layvin Kurzawa are both out long-term while Lassana Diarra is a doubt.
Reims have no major injury concerns.
