Jackson Betihama, the chairperson of public universities Non-Teaching Staff Executives Forum says they resolved only to go back to work after government increases their salaries this financial year.
Government had proposed a salary increment for them in the financial year 2016/2017 and also pay their arrears in salary increment for this year 2015/2016 in the next financial year. But this seem to have fallen on a rocky desert.
The chairperson of parliament’s education committee, William Kwemara has however urged the non-teaching staff to accept Government terms and get back to work but they are not ready to end the strike until their money is paid this financial year.
Non- teaching staff at Makerere University, Gulu University, Makerere University Business School, Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Busitema University, Kyambogo University started their sit down strike on 3rd August demanding for a salary increment.
