NCHE Delays Graduation of 500 Students of Muteesa I Royal University

The National Council for Higher Education-NCHE has delayed graduation of over 500 students Muteesa I Royal University over failure to reach the required standards.

The council states that some of the courses offered at the University lacked accreditation and the quality was below the minimum standards.The council has instructed the Buganda Kingdom’s university to suspend admissions to these courses and to halt the planned graduation of students that completed their study schedules(source:URN).

The programs in question are; degree and diploma in Civil, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering Courses in Kirumba, Masaka campus and it’s subsidiary branch located in Kakeeka-Mengo.

All academic certificates issued to students the affected courses are to also be evoked for verification by NCHE.

According to Prof. Umar Ahmed Kasule, the University Acting Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration, the problem was birthed before his tenure as some practical parts were missing from the courses but the administration is working to rectify the problem.

The victimized students are therefore to pursue remedial courses at Kyambogo University and Nakawa Vocational Training Institute before they are cleared for graduation, as prof. Kasule states.

Joseph Lukyamuzi, the University Communications Officer, said the institution has been forced to call off the general University graduations to sort the issue.
