Namibia 2017/2018 ICC Women’s World T20 Africa Qualifier

The Lady Cricket Cranes were on Wednesday 6th,September,2017 flagged off for 2018 ICC Women’s World T20 Africa Qualifier (also World Cup qualifier) due in Namibia Friday, 8th,September.

The team was flagged off at the National Council of Sports (NCS) premises in Lugogo with the proceedings led by NCS staff and Uganda Cricket Association stake holders.

The tournament in question is scheduled for 8th-15th September at the Wanderers Cricket Oval in Windhoek, Namibia.

Lady Cricket Cranes head to this tournament with their heads high after successful build up games in Nairobi last month and hope for a successful outing in Windhoek.

‘’The team is in good shape and I know we shall deliver our best.’’

‘’I expect a competitive tournament but we are on the winning side,’’ team coach; Francis Otieno said moments after the flagging off.

Team captain; Kevin Awino is also upbeat that her side will deliver and with the adequate preparations, she hopes for a successful tournament.

‘’We have done our best in training and it is now time to repeat what we have been doing and surely, the sky is the limit,’’ a confident Awino said.

Uganda will be one of the five African nations (Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania and Namibia) that will compete for honours in this tournament.

However, 15th and 16th September are the dates set for play offs; after group stages.

The African winners will join winners from ICC regions; Europe/Americas (Scotland and Netherlands), East Asia Pacific (Papua New Guinea) and two ICC full members (Bangladesh and Ireland) to go through the final qualifying tournament for the World Cup that will be held early next year in a yet to be announced venue.

The elite showpiece – The 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 will be hosted in the West Indies from November 2nd  to 25th, 2018.
