Nakayiza Grace elected Guild President at African Rural University

Nakayiza Grace has been elected as the Guild President African Rural University.

The elections were held on Monday at the University’s main campus in Kagadi District Western Uganda.

On Saturday morning while on a talk show at Kagadi Kibaale Community Radio (KKCR FM 91.7), the Electoral Commission Chairman Mrs Atugonza Phionah announced that the elections will be held electronically and that students will be required to login to their emails and vote.

“Unlike other previous years, this years elections are going to be done electronically. Voters will only require to login to their e-mail account where they will find a link to the e-ballot.” Said Phionah.

The voting which started at 11:00am only took 90 minutes. It was later found out that two students were absent for the voting but managed to vote from their places via smart phone.

Nakayiza Grace emerged as the winner with 18 votes which is 58.1% after beating her fellow contestant Asiimire Olivia who got 13 votes.

According to the news published on the Girl based University, elections in other departments were held and the following emerged as winners;

  • Vice Guild President- Makune Ahumuza
  • The General Secretary-Ahimbisibwe Peace
  • The Minister of Finance-Kyalisiima Malita
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs-Kemigisa Peninah
  • Minister of Education & Sports-Kobusinge Mugisa
