Museveni Appoints Prof. Moses Muhwezi as Makerere University Business School Principal

President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Prof. Moses Muhwezi as the principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), solidifying his position after nearly 17 months as acting principal.

The appointment, confirmed on November 3, follows requests from students and staff for stable leadership at the Nakawa-based institution. “I, Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, do hereby appoint Muhwezi Moses (Prof.) as principal,” read the official instrument, marking a five-year tenure.

Staff leaders, including Mubasa Vice Chairperson Albert Arinda, commended Muhwezi’s contributions and reforms during his acting period, which they say brought stability to the institution.

This appointment also makes Muhwezi only the second principal in the school’s 28-year history, following Dr. Wasswa Balunywa’s long tenure.

MUBS staff and students gather in celebration to congratulate Prof Moses Muhwezi’s appointment as substantive Principal of MUB by President Museveni.

Muhwezi’s extensive background includes leadership roles as Dean of Entrepreneurship and Business Administration and Deputy Principal. He holds advanced degrees from the Netherlands and Makerere University and has been active in several professional procurement associations, including the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and COMESA’s Technical Committee of Procurement Experts.

Founded in 1997, MUBS gained autonomy in 2000 and continues to operate as an affiliate of Makerere University. Muhwezi’s appointment is seen as pivotal to guiding the institution’s next chapter.
