Phillip Mugume Baitwa (Law student) was declared the new Guild President of Uganda Christian University (UCU) on Saturday 2nd March at 1:00am.

Baitwa beat his other two opponents with a total of 906 votes. Simon Peter Ifuuke Nkanda became second with 487 votes and Samuel Lubwama got 454 votes. A total of 99 votes were declared invalid.

The race had attracted many contestants but some were disqualified towards the end of the campaigns for alleged forgery of documents.

Many had not been confirmed in the church and thus could not receive Holy Communion yet this is part of the requirements for one to be a legible candidate. Bearing this in mind, they resorted to getting papers from Nassar Road.

Celebrations are still going on at Nkoyoyo Hall as many students can’t to hide their gratitude after hearing the good news that Phillip Mugume Baitwa was declared the new Guild Boss of UCU.

The out going UCU Guild president,Emmanuel Wabwire – the people’s choice, has congratulated Phillip for his Godly victory.

“He surely fits best as appointed by God. Congratulations Phillip and your team”, Wabwire says.

Unlike at other Universities, there are no political parties at UCU and all candidates were independent.
