MPs Summon Makerere university council

The parliamentary committee on education has summoned Makerere University Council to explain the new fees policy. The chairperson of the committee, Sylvia Ssinabulya said on Wednesday that they want to know the policy and how its implementation has been handled.

The committee is set to meet the university council on Wednesday next week.

The new fees policy requires a student to pay 60% of the total fees in the first six weeks. Since the implementation of the policy, students have strongly opposed it through numerous strikes leading to suspension of some students.

The university due to students’ pressure only increased the deadline by two weeks and it ended on March 22nd . But according to Anna Adeke, the newly sworn in Guild President, the university will allow students to continue paying fees until further notice.

Anna has however asked her fellow students to remain calm.
