Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) has been granted a charter by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
Prof John Opuda-Asibo, the Executive Director of NCHE handed over the charter certificate to the board members of Mountains of the Moon University on Friday 1st June 2018.
Prof Opuda-Asibo said that after NCHE ascertained that the university fulfilled all the requirements, they forwarded the application to the Minister of Education, Ms Janet Museveni, who presented it to President Yoweri Museveni who granted the charter on Dec 20, 2017.
Prof Dr John Kasenene, the Vice Chancellor MMU said the university is set to grow stronger after being chartered.
“The students will be able to access scholarships, financing loans, post-graduated programmes at PhD level and many other opportunities,” he said.
Mountains of the Moon University is a private institution located in Fort Portal in Kabarole District though there is a plan by the government of Uganda to turn it into one of the public Universities in Uganda.
It was established in 2005 by a team of eminent people from Tooro region, as a community university.
